Donor feedback comes in person and online reviews, and is particularly significant for first-time donors, as many arrive wanting to donate blood for medical research but are uncertain of what to expect. “Being able to reassure donors and facilitate a smooth donation and recovery process in a calm and relaxed environment is truly rewarding,” she says.
A good first experience is what brings donors back. Repeat donors, with known health profiles and established relationships with the clinical team, are the foundation of everything Research Donors can offer researchers working in oncology, immunology, drug discovery, and beyond. For studies that require longitudinal sampling, matched donor cohorts, or recall of specific individuals, that depth of donor relationship is something most suppliers cannot replicate.
Running a clinic where every session counts
Liz’s day starts with clinic preparation and a team briefing, with tasks allocated to hit the day’s collection targets safely and on schedule. The clinic runs both whole blood collections and apheresis procedures, where specific blood components such as plasma, PBMCs, or leukocytes are isolated and collected for research.
From there, she moves between overseeing donations, supporting her nursing colleagues, and a steady stream of administrative work: scheduling apheresis donors, managing documentation, and responding to enquiries.
A team built on collaboration
For Liz, pride in the work and pride in the team are the same thing. She brings her clinical nursing skills to every aspect of the role from donor safety, sample quality, and the standards that underpin both. “What makes me proud to be part of the Research Donors team is our commitment to delivering high-quality blood products for research, but also our appreciation for donors’ contribution to making it happen,” she says. That commitment shows up most clearly in the way teams across the organisation support one another, something Liz sees as one of Research Donors’ real strengths.
Liz also mentors new colleagues and invests in the professional development of her team. Watching new recruits grow into their roles with confidence, she says, is one of the most rewarding parts of the job.
